Palanda Approves Ordinance to Protect Watersheds

In August 2009, Palanda County located in the province of Zamora Chinchipe, adopted the "Ordinance for the protection of watersheds, fragile ecosystems and other priority areas for biodiversity conservation. This Ordinance provides for the establishment of reserve areas to protect the water sources and forests of the county, and also provides a mechanism of long-term financing to implement protection activities, reforestation, and forest recovery. Through this process, Palanda could become the seventh constituent of the Regional Water Fund (FORAGUA).
